Student Research and Poster Competition
The MS in Industrial Management and MS in Technology programs are partnering with the ASQ Kansas City Section in organizing the 14th Annual Quality Management Conference on September 29, 2022, between 8:30 AM -3:30 PM, at UCM Main Campus, Warrensburg. Student Research and Poster Competition is one of major events in this conference. The ASQ - UCM Student Branch is an organizer.
Individual or group of students (1-3) can work together to submit an abstract of your project/research in this Showcase competition. Undergraduate, graduate students, all majors are encouraged to participate and submit the abstract. To register for the competition, students must have an abstract ready, Click Here
If your abstract has been accepted, you will give an oral presentation 5 minutes in the Conference on September 29th. The awards consists of a financial prize and certificate. The 1st place will receive a prize of $300, the 2nd - $200; and the 3rd - $100. The 3-5 judges from UCM and ASQ will evaluate the research and poster presentation.
The course instructor may award extra credits for your effort. The abstract submission is worth 5 points; research and poster presentation at the conference is worth 10 points.
Instruction for research and poster competition
Your work must be creative and original. It should be constructed to promote the concept and to raise awareness of using Technology in waste reduction. The first-hand and secondary research are acceptable. Actual project implementation with results are encouraged. The abstract should be 200-250 words containing project’s title, need of project and purpose, methodology, finding/results, and conclusion. Some ideas relate to Technology used in and waste reduction are, but not limit to:
Using filter bottle water (to reduce plastic bottles)
Using app for recycling program
Implementing 5S in everyday life
Reuse, reduce, and recycle
Food waste and design workflow with new software
Reducing plastic usage, garbage, toxic waste
Examples of successful/failure cases in waste reduction, sustainability
Lean thinking and Technology in virtual environment (e.g. reduce junk mail, reduce meeting time,…)
Lean thinking Ideas and Technology in sports, restaurant, office, hospital, entertainment, transportation,…

The abstract 1 page (200-250 words) is due by Wednesday, September 7th. The announcement of 10 selected abstracts will be on Monday September 12th; and the oral presentation with E-Poster will be on September 29th at UCM main campus, Union 240.
Instruction in creating a poster and giving presentation
After your abstract get accepted, all members will create a poster (size 24”x36”) on your research/project. The contents of your poster may include, but not be limited to: Introduction, project goal/objective/purpose, problem statement, methodology, and summary of major findings. Any pertinent tables, diagrams, photos should be included in your poster. In the oral presentation, students will use this E-Poster as part of your presentation.
