Topic Guidelines
The topic of the map must be an Arkansas theme of interest to you. Examples of items you may consider mapping:
Items located by latitude and longitude. Examples might include the location of the street lights in your community.
Areas that share a common characteristic. These might include level of education by county or census tract.
Some suggestions of topics for mapping:
Local parks Politics

Map Construction Guidelines
ArcGIS Online must be used to make the submitted maps.
All maps must focus on a topic in Arkansas. The scale can range from state-wide themes to those specific to one community; the map should show an area of at least one square mile.
Maps must be original works. While existing data available online or through ArcGIS Online may be utilized, at least one layer must be created by you. This can include the use of Map Notes.
Maps should include some element of analysis, rather than simply display facts.
Your final maps must be presented as a single ArcGIS Online Story Map (using the 'new' Story Map format).
Maps must be submitted by individual students or teams of no more than two students.
The national competition recommends focusing on the map elements of the project, minimizing video and photo-based elements within the presentation.
Please see the full rules and guidelines of the national competition here: ArcGIS Online School Competition Rules
Deadlines
All map submissions must be made to the state no later than the posted deadline, to be finalized in January 2024.
Because schools are limited to a maximum of five (5) total entries, it is recommended that an internal school deadline at least two weeks ahead of the state deadline is set to ensure the best entries are advanced to the state level. Entries submitted to the state contest from the same school will be accepted in order of submission up to the maximum.
