ArcGIS Online is a web-based mapping platform that allows users to view, edit, and collaborate using geospatial data. To find out more information, check out What is ArcGIS Online?.
Through the ConnectED Initiative, Esri has donated free licenses to the ArcGIS Online platform to any interested K12 organization in the United States. The process to set up a free Organizational account is relatively straightforward. If you do not have an existing ArcGIS Online Organizational account for your school, you can start the process by going to Esri's Education page. Scroll to the bottom to request your free school account.
You can showcase a series of maps in a slideshow format using the Presentation style within ArcGIS Online. Designers can add text to each slide and viewers can navigate sequentially through the images. See an example showing data for earthquakes here. ArcGIS Online Web ApplicationsMore elaborate tools are available through Web Applications or Web Apps. Web Apps are essentially digital frames for maps, allowing the map creator to customize the interface users see when they interact with the included layers. Many Web App templates are available within the ArcGIS Online platform. If you don't find what you're looking for, you can always develop your own Web App using the Web App Builder. ArcGIS Online Story MapsStory Maps are a specific type of Web Application where map data can be accompanied by supporting documentation and data. There are several different types of Story Map templates, each appropriate for showcasing different types of data.
