Larynx Quest

If you're into Minecraft, you may have wondered if there's anything redeeming you can do with it, or is it just a world-sized, maniacally awesome time sink? Yes and yes! Come along with us ...

As you work your way through the jungle, a hush of anticipation falls.

Is that something I see through the trees?

Let's go over by that pond. There's definitely something over there.

There it is. Look at the size of it!

How many hours would the ancients have had to work to build that?

We need to get closer, look at it from all angles.

What noble dimensions.

What exquisite proportions!

What cubic magnificence!!!

What unparalleled parallel lines!!! Erm ... Wow!!!!!

Now we're inside it!!! INSIDE!!!

We were even able to climb onto the cricoid cartilage. Hope you're not afraid of heights!

Look at those magnificent arytenoids. Of course the ancients chose diamond for them.

Its magnificence is not dimmed by the failing light of dusk.

Well, there you have it folks. A quick tour around one of the archaeological wonders of the Minecraft world. For those in the know, I'll point out that I didn't use flying (hence the ladders), but I did use Creative Mode rather than Survival mode to build this (hence the abundance of hard-to-get iron for the thyroid cartilage and the six blocks of precious diamond for the arytenoids).

I do not recommend using Minecraft for 3D rendering of anatomy. It works, and it takes less technical skill than proper 3D software. But the necessary cost in building time and the potential cost if you become hooked on the game are both out of proportion. Save yourselves!

(If escape is no longer an option for you, I've put a zipped version of the world in the Downloads page. Feel free to augment, destroy, or otherwise tinker with this. I'd love to see any related creations or derivatives you come up with.)
