What is Gifted & Talented?
"Gifted and talented student" means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who:
· exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
· possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or excels in a specific academic field.
How are GT students served?
“Students who participate in services designed for gifted students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment.”
Students at Sudan High School will:
· Work in their core-subjects for gifted and talented emphasis throughout the school year. Students will have a GT activity or project for each core subject area. Parents are encouraged to talk with their student and teacher about their GT enrichment areas.
· Students will have an opportunity to participate in an enrichment activity in the Fall and/or Spring semester(s).
· Students will have an opportunity to particpate in Super Saturdays at Texas Tech University in the Fall and/or Spring semester(s). {Parents are responsible for the payment and transportation required of Super Saturdays.}
During the 2008-2009 school year, 4 of Sudan’s GT students were chosen to attend Texas Tech’s Wind Camp with full scholarships!
