Eric Royer just completed his 10th season as varsity offensive coordinator at Pleasant Valley High School. Royer has led the highly successful implementation of the triple option offense at Pleasant Valley. Under Royer's guidance, the offensive record book at Pleasant Valley has been rewritten. Points in a season (477 in 2012), rushing yards in a season (3,549 yds. in 2012), total yards in a season (4,489 yds. in 2012), individual rushing TD's in a season (17 by L.J. Redmond in 2012), individual receptions in a season (54 by Jason Stewart in 2010) and individual passing TD's in a season (15 by Grant Lang in 2011 and 15 by Brady Letney in 2012) are all school records that have been broken during Royer's tenure. For all of his success Royer was awarded the Iowa Class 4A Assistant Coach of the Year Award following the 2012 season. Royer is also in charge of coaching the quarterback position. Prior to becoming offensive coordinator he was an assistant coach at Pleasant Valley, in 2004-05 on the sophomore staff and from 2006-08 on the varsity staff. Royer's background at Pleasant Valley also includes being Dean of Students at Pleasant Valley Jr. High School (2003-04), Wellness instructor at Pleasant Valley High School (2004-present), head freshman boys basketball coach (2005-2011) and jr. high track coach (2005-present). Before coming to Pleasant Valley, Royer spent 10 years teaching and coaching in the Clinton (Iowa) School District. First, as an assistant football coach from 1993-1998, then as varsity offensive coordinator from 1999-2000 and finally serving as head varsity football coach from 2001-2002.
As a player, Royer was a two year starter at tight end, won an IIAC Championship (1991) and was a part of two NCAA Division III National Playoff teams at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Simpson College in 1993 and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Western Illinois in 2000. Preceding his time at Simpson, he was an All-MAC selection as a tight end at Clinton (Iowa) High School, from which he is a 1989 graduate.
Royer and his wife, Tina, have three children Addie (PV Class of '15), Max (PV Class of '18) and Ben (PV Class of '19).
