Inclement Weather Policy

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:

Rationale:

1. Wind and brass instruments are finely-crafted, precision-made instruments which are intended primarily for indoor concert use; to avoid serious damage and the high potential for cracks, wooden instruments *will not* be allowed/used for outside performances. The only exception will be made for high-tension wood-shell marching percussion, which are reinforced and specifically designed for outdoor use.

2. We have a very limited repair budget (if any), and can not risk damaging the instruments by performing in heavy rain or in freezing conditions. Instruments used in light rain must be dried thoroughly before being stored properly to prevent rot and the risk for mold and mildew. Keeping wind instrument pads dry is extremely important.

3. I will make a “call” about the event as early as possible. Please listen for morning announcements and read afternoon announcements for details about the event. If that can not be done before the end of the school day, please check your email and this website for event cancellation information before you arrive at HHS. When in doubt, assume the event is taking place… logistically, it is much more practical to dismiss you at “show time” if necessary, than it is to wait and scramble all of the band members into action at the last minute.

4. For Thanksgiving Day Football Games / Field Show Performances: If there is only light rain or snow, we will protect instruments, or stay inside until half-time.
