Directions: The best way to earn the most credit in class is to complete your daily homework assignments on time and with your best effort. If you are interested in earning some extra points each quarter here is your opportunity. Complete these tasks for an opportunity to earn extra credit each quarter. I will not ask you turn in any extra credit. You will be responsible for bringing it to me when complete. No other extra credit will be offered on an individual basis.
Here is a list of the quarters and the units covered in class during each quarter. You can receive extra credit for completing a task as it relates to the units of study for your grade level this year.
You MAY earn e.c. on a topic from your grade level any quarter all year!

1. Quiz/Test Corrections with Explanation - 10 pts. for each item corrected and explained (max 100 pts. per test)
(The extra credit for this will NOT be added to change the original quiz/test grade itself. It will be added as extra credit your overall social studies grade. )
For each quiz/test question missed, copy down the test question and your original answer. Then identify what the correct answer should be. In 2-3 sentences explain why your original answer was wrong and how you know your new answer is right. Support your new answer with a text reference to the textbook or assignments where you found the new answer.
2. AR Quiz – 10 pts. for each quiz question right (max 100 pts. per book)
(Please check with your AR teacher more specific requirements from them about what books and book levels you can or cannot take a quiz on.)
Read a nonfiction AR book about a topic from our current unit of study. Take the AR quiz and bring a copy of it to Mrs. Hilton.
Read a historical fiction AR book that is set during the time period of our current unit of study and the plot is centered around the unit as well. Take the AR quiz and bring a copy of it to Mrs. Hilton. (Keep in mind just because a book is set in the past, doesn’t make it historical fiction.)
3. Module Assessment in Online Textbook – 10 pts. for each question right (max 100 pts.)
Complete the Module Assessment found at the end of each module in the online textbook.
4. Flashcards - 25 pts (min. of 25 cards; max 100 pts)
Create a set of flashcards to study for your upcoming test! Must have a term or question on one side and answer/definition/explanation on the other side. Can be made on traditional notecards or typed using Google Slides. If you type them, they must be printed, cut, and folded into cards before turning them in. Once you have used your cards to study, turn them in to Mrs. Hilton to be awarded your points. (You may not receive credit for printable flashcard slides already created and shared by Mrs. Hilton.)
5. Historical Movie Review– 100 pts for 5 min. oral presentation
Watch an historical fiction movie or historical documentary that is about a major historical time period we study in class this year. Then provide a critique of what you watched to the entire class and be prepared to answer questions from Mrs. Hilton and/or your classmates about the movie. You can create a slide show to share with the class as well. See Mrs. Hilton for specific things to include in your presentation.
6. Historical Family Antique or Artifact - 100 pts for 5 min. oral presentation
Have a unique family antique or artifact that fits in with the topic we are studying in class, share it with us! Let Mrs. Hilton know you have something you would like to share and she will arrange a time with you to bring it to class. If you can’t bring the item to class (ie. weapons or item is too big or fragile), take pictures of you with the item and create a slide presentation about the history and family connection of the item. Share your presentation with the class and answer any questions Mrs. Hilton or your classmates may have.

7. Become a Typing Master - 1 pt. per lesson passed (max 200 pts/quarter)

Then click ‘Sign Up with Google’. Once you’ve logged on, you may complete any of the course lessons assigned to your class. You must pass the lessons with 80% accuracy and/or 4 stars in order to receive your extra credit. Any extra credit earned will be added at the end of each quarter. Mrs. Hilton will run a final report. (Do not complete a typing activity/game during another teacher’s class unless you have asked for permission from that teacher.)
8. Become a Cursive Master - 1 pt. per sentence (max 200 pts/quarter)
On a separate sheet of paper, write at least 10 sentences in your best cursive handwriting. These sentences can be a passage from a textbook, a made up story, a letter to Mrs. Hilton - anything! Just write at least 10 sentences in cursive using proper grammar and punctuation. Number each sentence before turning it in to Mrs. Hilton. (May not be an assignment already assigned to you.)
