Presidential Memo

To: Government Students

Many American voters misunderstand the Constitutional roles and powers of the US president, and because of this misunderstanding voters are often dissatisfied with the person running our country. How would you teach voters about the office of President?

Your group must select and create a format for teaching voters about the real job of President. For each of the following you must include concrete examples of:

  • Requirements for President

  • How the President got elected (electoral college)

  • Powers of President v. not powers of the president

  • Duties of President v. not duties of the president

  • The rest of the executive branch- who are they and how do they support the president?

  • Influence of the president- why is he/she important?

  • Influences on the president- inside and outside of the government

  • Benefits of being president

It is up to your group to decide the best format for reaching the voters. All projects will be shared with senior students at Wunsche as many of them will soon be voters in the 2012 presidential election.
