Summative Assessments: Final Projects are considered TESTS in the art department and weighted as the most percentage
as it is based in NJ Core Content Standards. This can and does include all final artwork, digital portfolios, mid-terms, art critiques and various methods of testing. It is technique and skill based with the demonstration of student progress, growth and understanding class curriculum. This may include Awareness of the Elements of design (line, shape, form, space, color, texture, and value) and principles of design (repetition, rhythm, movement, balance, emphasis, contrast, unity, proportion, variation, dominance). These are the backbone of art-showing them in your sketch books and ideas are very important.Creativity/Originality- inventive thinking and ideas, strong desire to experiment, imaginative, generates many ideas (brainstorming), makes connection to prior knowledge.Craftsmanship/Skill/Organization- care and attention to design- use of materials and tools.
Formative Assessments: These are assessments within a lesson upon which help identify the student understanding, completion or demonstration of technique and or acquired knowledge. This also includes work habits/ motivation- Showing class progress and motivation is an important part of grading that directly relates to your progress and technical growth.
Homework/Sketchbook assignment/Journal notes - This is a project oriented course and class which teaches technical and aesthetic as well as safety concerns involved. You are required to take notes and work assignments during this course- which will be submitted for evaluation. At times you will be asked questions, reading and or exercises that prepare or parallel what we are doing in class. I NEVER give you 'busy' work.
Department Late Policy
Homework late policy per assignment (will be adjusted per point value) is 85 for one day late, 75 for 2 days, 65 for 3 days, 55 for 4 days. Work will not be accepted after it is 5 days late.
