5th Grade Art

Students in fifth grade art will create various projects using clay, mixed media, drawing, and writing. Students will be become more familiar with art vocabulary through their study of the principles and elements of art. Most lessons will begin with one or more demonstrations and an introduction to a successful or famous artist. Students will learn how to create original characters and use words and images alongside each other in storytelling. Students will learn the basics of mixing paint to create value, and they will create three-dimensional creatures through sculpting and using mixed media.

So get ready to get your hands dirty, create, and have fun!

Project # 1: Comics

Students create their own unique superhero inspired by themselves! They design and create the characters and develop an adventurous story that is easy for the reader to understand and follow. Students will learn about story elements and how to tell a story with images.Students also learn how to incorporate line, texture, and shading into their drawings using colored pencil and ink

to create contrast and movement.

Project # 2: Monochromatic Animals

Students select an animal that they would like to do a painting of, they observe closely from a photograph

(google image) to create a proportionate drawing to that animal. Once their animal is drawn, the students practice mixing

and blending tints and shades of the color or their choosing. They use a monochromatic color scheme (One Color, including

tints and shades of that color) to show texture, details, and contrast in their animal painting.
