COMMUNICATION
GOOD COMMUNICATION is the key to assuring that no misunderstandings arise between student, parent, and teacher. Assignments, syllabi, rubrics, calendars, field trips and fundraiser information and updates are available for viewing through the chorus website http://sites.google.com/a/smcps.org/gmhs-choirs/home.
Transportation to and from co-curricular rehearsals/concerts is the responsibility of the student and/or their parent/guardian, NOT Mrs. Nelson. Please check your calendars now to arrange transportation to and from those events. For off-campus performances that occur during the school day or are sponsored by GMHS or St. Mary’s County Public Schools, transportation will be provided between the event and the GMHS campus. The few exceptions where buses will not be provided include All County Honor Chorus Concert, All-State Honor Chorus Auditions and the performance weekend and District and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Due to the often scattered times that these individualized events occur, students and parents must arrange their own transportation.
In order to be sure that we all are communicating accurately, you are asked to sign and return the contract after reading the student handbook. Please read the handbook with special attention to: chorus calendar, rehearsal, concert, grading and electronic device policies. PLEASE complete this google form to Mrs. Nelson on or before Friday, September 29, 2023. Personal conflicts to the mandatory rehearsals/concerts should be communicated in writing to Mrs. Nelson no later than two weeks from the time of conflict. Emergencies will be handled on a case by case basis.
Additions and changes to the calendar will be sent home in various information formats as needed. Most important events are on this draft and should not change. Students are expected to make arrangements for transportation to and from rehearsals and concerts. “Not having a ride” is not an excuse when nearly 100 other people are also making the trip.
