District IV Choral Solo and Ensemble Assessment will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2024 from 8:00
a.m. until completion, at Chopticon High School. Participating student information must be entered
into the Google Survey by Friday, February 19, 4:00 p.m. Student registration is not
complete until the student has submitted a copy of the registration form signed by a
parent/guardian. In the event of a closing, due to bad weather, the applications will be due the next
regular school day.
The link for registration can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdjGEPwH16BmgHKzHH_iiWf0s58e2PSLWERXUTqACfFeVIwBQ/viewform
Please have students complete the registration process and assist as necessary. If a student does not
have access to the necessary technology to complete the registration process, registration information may be
submitted on the “old” form. The deadline date will be strictly adhered to according to MCEA rules.
Rules for Participation: Please refer to the 2012 Revision of the Southern Maryland Music
Conference Handbook, pages 80-83 for complete regulations and guidelines.
1. A solo and ensemble applicant must be a full-time registered student in the performing choral
group/class and receive a passing grade.
2. Participants will perform a selection for adjudication that is chosen from the MCEA approved list.
The music will determine the grade level entered. The selection must be under six minutes.
3. A student may enter a maximum of three events (any combination of solo and/or ensemble
selection). Students in grades 9-12 who earn a Superior (I) rating in grades II-VI music at the
district assessment will be eligible to be adjudicated at the state festival. State festival forms
will be completed on site at the District IV Assessment.
4. Students must provide their own accompanists for selections that are not a cappella. Failure
to provide an accompanist will result in the lowering of the final rating by one grade. All
accompaniments must be live. Recorded music of any kind will not be allowed unless it is part
of the score.
5. An original score with the measures numbered shall be provided to the adjudicator. Failure to
provide the original score for the adjudicator will result in the lowering of the final rating by one
grade. This also includes music purchased online.
