Reflection of Teaching Feedback
Participating in the CUTS Program brought me joy throughout the intensive courses of study. This program provides me with an opportunity to explore and develop myself, as a teacher, for others as the Jesuit education inspires. In support of the mission of Saint Louis University and the Reinart Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL), the use of inclusive teaching in my teaching meets the expectation of this program.
As the opportunities provided by the faculty mentors, I implemented a lesson plan on a topic "Inclusion and Adaptations" by implementing the use of course design and teaching methods to create equitable learning environment in the EDI 4540 Field Experience: EC Practicum Course. With this practice, I believe that "All learners can be successful regardless of differences in identity, background, and ability" as the CTTL addresses.
The faculty mentors provided specific formative feedback on my teaching in some specific areas that include teaching plans and practices in discipline, lectures and activities, and interactions with students. The feedback addressed my contribution to student learning in terms of visual supports, modeling, well structure for the pair and share conversations and discussions, interactive activities throughout lesson, student engagement for participation, and well-organized lesson. In an area of improvement, addition of student interactive activities throughout lesson to ensure student knowledge of content was advised on my teaching.
For self-reflection, the areas of improvement include teaching in a slower pace, providing more examples for group discussion in order to ensure student's understanding, and using clear language in communication.
