Popularized by the movie Blade Runner (1982), which was released just after Philip K. Dick's death, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? has become a major moment in SciFi. It was published in 1968, the same year that Ursula K. Le Guin published The Left Hand of Darkness, and it could not be more different in tone, although the powerful theme of "Otherness" unites these writers, who were high school classmates in Northern California.
