Typically, all biology students at Shenendehowa take a cummulative midterm exam in January. .
In a typical year, all Regents Biology students take the same exam which was written by a committee of biology teachers. It consists of questions similar to those on past Living Environment Regents exams. There is a different midterm for Honors Biology students.
When:
Typically late January, typically on the Friday or Monday of Regents testing week, whichever is deemed a class day by State Ed.
Where:
In class during a normal school day
How Long:
As long as a typical class test, approximately 30 questions. Students have 40 minutes to complete it.
Grading:
The test counts twice and is calculated as part of a student's third quarter average
Topics Included:
Ecology 1, Ecology 2, Populations, Ecology 3, Biochemistry, and Cells
Review:
Students are provided with a midterm review packet right after Christmas break. Sections are assigned each week for homework. Some class time is spent going over questions. Students are expected to do much of the review independently. It works best when students do the practice questions, ask for help on specific questions (during class or during student prep), and then study the concepts they find most difficult. Off lab periods are also a good time to ask for clarification on practice questions.
