¡ Benvenidos a la clase de Español!

¡Welcome to Spanish class!

We are looking forward to a rewarding and fun year. Our goals for our students are to communicate in a language other than English and to gain an awareness and understanding of other cultures.

We will follow the National Standards For Foreign Language Learning for grades 8th. Our textbook and workbook (Glencoe McGraw – Hill, Publishers) called "Así se dice!" 1B is the junior high component of the high school series used by a number of high school areas designed to span all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

8Th grades classes Content topics for level B are:

Review of level B material;

Vocabulary in situational conversations (health and the doctor, winter and summer activities: cultural activities ---movies, theater, museums, clothes, fashion and shopping, travel by train, camping);

Grammar present tense of more irregular verbs, demonstrative adjective, the difference between ser and estar, object pronouns, present tense of regular and irregular verbs, (el tiempo presente de los verbos) same verbs need special constructions, reflexive verbs, and;

Cultural perspectives and map study of Latin America and Spain,

We especially celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe, Cinco de Mayo, Lord of the Miracles (Perú).

Follow the Repaso (Review) sections which cover the key grammatical points and vocabulary topics presented in level A, each chapter of "Así se dice!" is divided into the following sections:

Vocabulario.- new vocabulary in a cultural context for the time of the chapter;

Estructura – the grammar section;

Conversacion – the dialogues,

Lectura y Cultura – a reading about Spanish-speaking people and places;

Culmination – a wrap-up section. Performance assessment for Spanish class is based upon the student’s participation, homework, and test (oral and written)

We look over the material in the student`s books and encourage her/his practice of Spanish outside the classroom.
