¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español!

¡Welcome to Spanish class!

We are looking forward to a rewarding and fun year. Our goals for our students are to communicate in a language other than English and to gain an awareness and understanding of other cultures.

We will follow the National Standards For Foreign Language Learning for grades 7th. Our textbook and workbook (Glencoe McGraw – Hill, Publishers) called Así se dice A1 is the junior high component of the high school series used by a number of high school areas designed to span all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

7Th grades class content topics for level A1 (7th grade) are:

Vocabulary in situational conversations (greetings and names: traditional prayers, classroom expressions, home, family and friends, foods and restaurants, sports, travel by plane, colors, numbers, days of the week, months and seasons, telling time, holidays, music and dance);

Grammar Agreement of nouns and adjectives (gender and number), the article, present tense of regular and irregular verbs, sentence formation, and;

Cultural perspectives and map study of Latin America and Spain, We especially celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe, Cinco de Mayo, Lord of the Miracles (Perú).

Follow the eight short preliminary lessons which help orient the students to some of the routines of the foreign language classroom, each chapter of Bienvenidos is divided into the following sections:

Vocabulario.- new vocabulary in a cultural context for the time of the chapter;

Estructura – the grammar section;

Conversación – the dialogues

Lectura y Cultura – a reading about Spanish-speaking people and places;

Culminación – a wrap-up section. Performance assessment for Spanish class is based upon the student’s participation, home work and test (oral and written)

We will look over the material student`s books,

and encourage her/his practice of Spanish outside

the classroom.
