7th Grade Safety Patrol
SGM’s morning Drop Off Safety Patrol is staffed by 7th grade students, organized by Mrs. McVey, and supervised by Speciality Teachers. When students are “on duty” they are joined outside by one Specialty Teacher who rotates as a daily duty. Inside the doors of Liguori Hall, Mrs. Brasher greets students every day and keeps tabs on the Patrol team. Students will be shown “zones” and are expected to stay in one zone. While parents in drop-off carpools do try to have kids unbuckled and ready to jump out, Safety Patrol’s goal is to help keep the students moving and the vehicles flowing smoothly as well as to be a happy face to greet everyone in the morning.
STUDENT INFORMATION:
Dress for the weather!! The little kids look up to you - pants and coats are encouraged once temps fall
Be outside by 7:25 - if you are dropped off after 7:20, leave your bookbag in your homeroom (not in hall) and head straight outside and pack for class after patrol. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE 7:25 BELL!
Check in with Homeroom Teacher for attendance & lunch count
Wear your vest to be safe and visible - pick up from office on way in
Smile! Say “good morning!” 😀
Stay in your ZONE, listen to Mrs. Brasher and the Specialty Teacher on duty for placements
Set out cones on white lines in your Zone
Respect the driver and other passengers
Help younger before older - opening manual door, undo seatbelt, getting out, grab book bags, etc
When raining/snowing: Wear rain boots or water shoes and bring extra socks & gym shoes - ponchos available in Office but feet get wet!
Stay focused on your task
Don’t just stand there - help! 😀
Pay attention - be aware
AT THE END OF PATROL YOU MUST ENTER THE BUILDING FROM THE BACK AND CHECK IN WITH MRS. BRASHER - this way we know you are safe and in the building. Never go around the front even if you are asked to put down the gate - this is for your safety.
PARENT INFORMATION:
drop off student by School Office doors between 7:10 and 7:20
try to make it easier on yourself by arranging carpool with those on your student's team
let Mrs. McVey know if teams could be better shuffled to arrange carpool
siblings can be dropped off at this time, too - if they do not have a morning duty they will remain in the office until released to their homeroom at 7:25
If your child will not be in school or has KSGM, please encourage them to find a substitute and email Mrs. McVey either relaying the substitute information or at least letting us know your child will be missing that day. It is not always possible to find a sub, but they should at least try. ☺️
If your student has conflicts with their scheduled duty during the year (serving either morning mass, late arrival for appointment, planned or unplanned absence), please do the following:
let your carpool know
have your student try to arrange a sub with another student
send Mrs. McVey an email so she knows who will not be there, who will be the sub, or if you are unable to find a sub (again, subs are hard to get, but at least try)
compare your Patrol Schedule to your Server Schedule - it is possible to do both, but that makes for a hectic morning. Prearrange a switch with someone - no subs or switches will be allowed the day of for mass serving; PARENTS: be aware of Patrol Schedule when signing up for Serving
Students are encouraged to ADD CALENDAR to your school or personal Google Calendar.
