Vincent Van Gogh was a late 1800s post impressionist painter.
He was very prolific making around 2000 paintings in his life time! He is very famous for many reasons including namely:
His amazing art that saw things in so many different ways!
It is possible that he was undiagnosed with "‘Xanthopsia’, that is, an overriding yellow bias in vision, can be provoked by many disorders other than the reddish-brown filter of nuclear sclerosis, which most famously affected Monet" (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3693787/)
This would explain the beautiful colors he saw and why his paintings often have yellow overtones.
He was undiagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder, causing him to have bouts of happiness and severe depression.
Vincent van Gogh, The Starry Night, 1889. Oil on canvas.
Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night in 1889 while he was staying in Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy, France, where he lived for a year following a breakdown and the mutilation of his left ear. Painted with oil on canvas, the artist attempted to capture the view from the window in his room. (https://www.artandobject.com/news/starry-night-takes-center-stage-van-goghs-cypresses-met)
