Today, we will practice making, labeling, and using layers.
We will first go over these steps with the same image as a class.
Optional Assignment (ask your teacher!): You will then colorize an image of your choice and turn it in as a PSD.
Open the above image in your editing app
OPTION 1
Drag the image to your PS desktop icon
OPTION 2 (Windows)
RIGHT CLICK (control click) on image
Save Image As OR copy + paste into PS doc.
In progress example
Make a NEW LAYER
* not a duplicate layer!
Keyboard shortcut: Shift + Command + N.
RENAME the layer based on the color or the area you will paint.
Example: green or center
Click on your BRUSH tool.
Keyboard shortcut: B
*TIP (make sure adjust the hardness of the brush in your controls when needed)
Pick the color you want to use to paint over that area.
2. ON THE blank LAYER, paint over the specific area you want to color.
In your layers palette, play with the blending modes (overlay, soft light, multiply…)
Adjust the opacity of the color on the layer.
If you painted too much of one color, use your eraser tool on that layer to take it off and correct it.
If you forgot to paint in a part of your image with the color:
FIRST, return to your normal blending mode and opacity
THEN, use your eye dropper tool to select the original color. This is because you painted the color in on the 'normal' mode, therefore you must return to the normal mode to get the correct color.
EACH COLOR NEEDS TO HAVE ITS OWN LAYER, so make sure to LABEL each later appropriately.
When you are done, save as PSD (photoshop) so I can see the layers.
Practice the BRUSH TOOL. Play with brushes, opacity, hardness of the brush, changing brush size using BRACKETS [ and ] .
