Masks are used to cover up part of a layer WITHOUT ERASING IT.
OPTION 1:
Select the "Object Selection" tool and hover over the dolphin.
Select the dolphin and type command + J (copy and paste selection on a new layer) to create a new layer.
OPTION 2:
To make a mask: click on the icon at the bottom of your layers that looks like a "camera".
*Use your brush tool to paint with black to ADD to the mask.
*Use your brush tool to paint with white to SUBTRACT from mask.
Or remember when painting on a mask: “Black conceals and white reveals”

You know you are on your mask when you see the brackets around it. Use masks to smooth the image’s edges together.
When your group is ready, say "Yes, Chef!" altogether!
**Note, the part in white will be visible on the image, the part in black will be covered up.
