As part of your Photo 2/Multimedia class, you’ll be using your creative skills and technical talent to give back to the community. This semester-long project is designed to help you build your portfolio, gain real-world experience, and make a meaningful contribution to M-A or your local area.
*Given how much time you have for this assignment, no late work will be accepted.
You will complete at least one service-based photography or multimedia project this semester. Your project should support an M-A or community need, such as creating visuals, capturing events, or producing promotional materials.
Here are some examples of what your project might look like:
Taking headshots for the drama department’s cast and crew.
Designing posters or flyers for a school club, team, or event.
Photographing families at Open House or other school gatherings.
Supporting the Fashion Show (if scheduled), either with photos or promotional material.
Helping the Yearbook team by attending and photographing a school event.
Volunteering your skills in your local community, such as creating a brochure or flyer for a nonprofit, local event, or neighborhood project.
HERE is a running list (updated weekly) of opportunities at M-A, but don't think this is everything! Have an original idea? Make it happen! Ask your favorite staff member if they need any promotional materials!
If you’re unsure whether your idea fits, just ask!
You must complete at least one event/project per semester.
Get teacher permission BEFORE you start planning:
Ms. Kelly AND the client
You need to log your hours, the event name, dates, a brief description of your contribution, and obtain confirmation from an adult supervisor/have a supervising adult verify your participation.
This project is a MAJOR part of your grade, so take it seriously and plan ahead.
You’ll be asked to submit your final work and reflection at the end of the semester.
Find a Need: Talk to teachers, coaches, club leaders, or community organizers.
Pitch Your Idea: Tell me what you plan to do before you start, including your timeline and goals.
Do the Work: Be professional, reliable, and creative in delivering your final product.
Document Everything: Keep track of your hours and take behind-the-scenes photos if possible.
Turn It In: At the end of the semester, submit your project files and a short reflection (what you learned, what went well, what you’d do differently next time).
Use this opportunity to grow your skills, build relationships, and do something meaningful with your photography or multimedia talent!
