Process Writing: Three types of writing are covered in 5th grade:
Narrative: Students write papers which describe and reflect on a significant experience. Students also write papers in which they narrate an observed event and describe the reactions of the people participating.
Expository: Students write papers to explain, interpret, or describe something based upon background experiences or information provided.
Persuasive: Students write papers taking a position and developing one side of an argument.
5th graders will also be involved in a variety of other types of writing, including writing in other content areas, letter writing, journaling, and written responses to text that we read in class.
