Zoom with Mr White - Bloody Sunday

Post date: Nov 20, 2020 10:13:9 AM

The pupils of 6th class have been busy learning about the events of Bloody Sunday this week as the country prepares to mark the 100th anniversary of that fateful day. We would like to commend the GAA for the way in which they told the stories of the people that died that day as we have made extensive use of the Bloody Sunday section of the GAA website (https://www.gaa.ie/bloodysunday/)

As part of our studies we invited Mr White to join us via Zoom to discuss Bloody Sunday. Mr White is a member of the GAAs History and commemorations committee and has worked with Michael Foley and others to remember the victims of Bloody Sunday.

Mr White discussed the background to Nov 21st 1920 and explained the events that morning in Dublin when the IRA targetted members of the British intelligence group known as the "Cairo Gang"  had led to the RIC, together with the Black and Tans and Auxilliaries travelling to Croke Park to look for those responsible.

We had a great chat about it and the pupils put some very thoughtful questions to Mr White.

We are very grateful to Mr White for joining us and the pupils are completing work on Bloody Sunday which we hope to post here in the week ahead.
