Scoil Shinchill Parents Association held their annual Halloween Raffle and Cake sale yesterday. Thanks a million to everyone who sent in or bought baked goods. Thanks to everyone who bought raffle tickets and a very special thank you to everyone who sponsored prizes for this years raffle.
Our Halloween dress up day is one of the highlights of the year for many of our children. Every year great effort is made by pupils and staff and this year was no different. Thankfully the weather cleared up and we got to go on our Spooky Walk. There was also lots of music and Halloween themed activities throughout the school. For more photos click here
It was Grandparents Day in Scoil Shinchill yesterday. This has become one of the most eagerly anticipated days in our school calendar.
Over the last couple of weeks, pupils in 2nd and 6th classes prepared by rehearsing songs and creating art and poems etc.
Yesterday was the big day and the grandparents visited each class and learned about life in a modern classroom. They also shared some experiences of their own time in school. There were refreshments available in the school hall afterwards and it was a very enjoyable occasion.
Thanks to everyone who came. Thanks to Ms Dunne, Ms Screeney and Ms Gannon for hosting. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare for the big day including our wonderful student council, thanks to those who helped with refreshments and thanks to Ms Moriarty's class who moved rooms for the day to facilitate the use of the main hall. Announcing Our New Student Council for 2025–2026!
We are delighted to introduce our new Student Council for the 2025–2026 school year!
Elections were held earlier this month, and we were blown away by the creativity and enthusiasm shown in the canvassing posters and persuasive speeches (We think a few tips could even be shared with the current presidential candidates!).
The Student Council plays a pivotal role in our school. Each member tries their best to make sure the voices of their peers are heard and represented. Their work includes raising issues brought to them by peers, brainstorming solutions, introducing new initiatives, organising events, and sharing opinions on school policies and decisions.
Our outgoing council did an incredible job last year. Some of their many achievements included: Running a successful Christmas Jumper Shop, with proceeds donated to SVP, arranging more yard equipment for break times, establishing a Chess Club, organising the “Siopa Bia” for Seachtain na Gaeilge and much, much more!
Our new council held their first meeting last week, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s group will accomplish. With their energy, ideas, and dedication, we know already that they’ll make a real difference in our school community.
Congratulations to J and R who represented Scoil Shinchill at the Offaly Cuman na mBunscoil hurling and camogie skills competition yesterday. They both did incredibly well and both placed in the runner up spots.
Well done to our Athletes who took part in the Tom Godley Offaly Cross Country meet in the Tullamore Harriers yesterday. We are very proud of the way all of our young athletes ran
Congratulations also to those who won medals.

The children enjoyed a great morning of team building, excitement and challenging their minds to complete their bridges. Thanks so much to Colàiste

Our girls football team got their year off to a great start today when they defeated Clara in their Offaly Cuman na mBunscoil match. Well done girls.
There was great excitement in school today with news that the Cannonball Run was travelling through our village. Pupils from 3rd to 6th classes walked down to the main road and took up position on either side where we got to watch from a safe vantage point a great collection of Super Cars, Hyper cars etc. Some of our pupils really impressed us with their knowledge of cars and there was a great variety of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, BMWs etc

cannonballrun.mp4The staff of Scoil Shinchill fully supports the secretaries and caretakers who have engaged in strike action over the past week. School secretaries and caretakers are seeking fairness and access to the same pensions and entitlements as their colleagues in the public service. We sincerely hope that a resolution will be found soon as schools cannot operate effectively without out the dedication of our secretaries and caretakers.
