We extend a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to our pre-loved sports gear sale. We are very grateful to all who donated items and to those who came along to purchase.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
A huge well done also to our Student Council, who organised the event, and helped to run the afternoon so successfully.
There are a small number of items still available for sale. If children wish, they may bring in €1–€2 tomorrow to purchase any remaining items.
Today is Safer Internet Day 2026 and Scoil Shinchill was delighted to take part. This years theme is, “AI Aware: Safe, Smart, and in Control”
Safer Internet Day 2026 explores ways to empower children and young people with the critical thinking and digital literacy skills they need to evaluate content, recognise bias, protect their privacy, and make responsible decisions, and be Safe, Smart and in Control.
These lessons will focus primarily on older pupils as they are the ones more likely to be using AI. Lets make Safer Internet Day 2026 bigger and better than ever! A parents guide to AI is available at https://www.webwise.ie/parents/
While lessons around AI will be taught to older classes, our younger pupils will explore other topics relating to online safety relative to their age. The internet has become an invaluable resource to people in our modern world and while there are many obvious benefits, there are dangers and things to consider especially where our children are concerned.
There are many great resources available on the Webwise Parents Hub (https://www.webwise.ie/parents/) The Webwise Parents Hub includes expert advice; explainer guides; talking points; how-to guides; and free resources including an online safety booklet for parents. We strongly encourage all parents to visit this valuable resource. #SID2026
Mr Phelans 4th class have been very busy lately preparing for this years Peace Proms concert in the RDS, Dublin. They travelled to the RDS last Sat and had an absolutely wonderful time. Well done to each of them and we hope they had a fantastic time at today's concert. Massive thanks to Mr Phelan for all his hard work preparing the boys and girls ahead of the big concert. Thanks also to Jes and Ms Sheeran who helped them out on the day
Pupils from our VEX Robotics group took part in the Midlands finals in Mucklagh recently. The group has put in massive work since November and were a credit to our school. They performed brilliantly in the driving, skills and coding skills challenges. Well done to each member of the group for all their hard work. We were honoured to be awarded the design award for design process and communication skills. Thanks a million to Mr Phelan and Mr Breslin for giving their time and expertise so generously after school. Finally, a massive thanks to Ray and Dean and their team from Offaly County Council who put on these fantastic events each year and are a massive support to our work with robotics every year. Thanks also to Paula for her help today
