SHS Counseling Department
To assist all students in their pursuit of academic success, social-emotional wellness, and achievement of career and life goals.
Mrs. McDermott previously worked as a school counselor at Spaulding from 1999 to 2006, before staying home after the birth of her first son. She is very excited to be working with students and their families and looks forward to meeting and working with you all this year. Prior to coming to Spaulding, she worked at both Concord and Keene High School as a guidance counselor. She received her B.A. in Sociology and M. Ed. in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire. This will be her 16th year working as a school counselor and she considers it a privilege to have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students every day.
Mrs. Newbegin joined the Spaulding counseling team in February 2019. Prior to counseling, she worked in domestic violence advocacy and child protection for 7 years. Through this work, she realized that she enjoyed nothing more than meeting with adolescents and discussing hopes, dreams, and goals. She earned her M.Ed. from Plymouth State University and also holds an M.S. in Criminal Justice from UMass Lowell. Mrs. Newbegin is proud to be born and raised in Rochester and a class of 2002 Spaulding graduate. She is excited to return to her roots in Rochester, a community that she admires and loves dearly. She strongly believes that students deserve respect, honesty, empathy, and, of course, a little humor to help them find success. When she isn’t working, Mrs. Newbegin enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids gardening, painting, cooking, and playing volleyball.
Ms. Reinhard is now in her 3rd year at Spaulding High School and entering her 11th year as a school counselor. She received both her B.S. in Social Work and M.Ed. in School Counseling at Plymouth State University and is an alumna of Concord High School here in the Granite State. She volunteers her time as a board member for GLSEN NH, loves finding bargains at yard sales, enjoys concerts, and playing with her puppies Stella and Harvey, and kitty Morty.
Ms. Ragonese joined the Spaulding High School Guidance department in the summer of 2018. Prior to joining the team, she spent 8 years living and working in New York City. She received her M.S.Ed in Counseling from Fordham University and worked at LaGuardia Arts High School and the Clinton School for Writers and Artists. She is a proud UNH alum, where she earned her B.A. in musical theater. When not encouraging students to make good choices, she is a crochet wizard, tie-die aficionado, HGTV binge-watcher/wannabe, and Patriots enthusiast. She is thrilled to be back in New Hampshire where she can spend time with family and friends.
Ms. Carvalho became part of the Spaulding High School counseling department in the summer of 2018. Prior to counseling, she taught high school English for 5 years, where she quickly developed a passion for supporting students both personally and academically. Ms. Carvalho graduated with High Honors in English from Clark University, where she also went on to earn her MAT in Secondary Education. Following this, she earned her MEd in School Counseling from UMASS Boston. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, hiking, bargain hunting, and spending time with her fiancé, a veterinarian, amid their house full of animals.
Mrs. Jerr joined the Spaulding School Counseling department in the summer of 2018. Mrs. Jerr came to Spaulding from Granite State College where she worked in Admissions and served as an Academic Advisor. Prior to working at GSC, she spent six years working for School Year Abroad in North Andover, MA. At SYA she worked with students preparing to spend their junior or senior year of high school abroad in China, France, Italy or Spain. Mrs. Jerr sits on the Board of Directors for Rochester Main Street and loves living and working in the Rochester community. Mrs. Jerr is the proud mom of three year old triplets who you’ll often see tagging along at Spaulding sporting events. Go Red Raiders!
