BEHAVIOR AND ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS

1.) Disrespect of any kind towards me or your classmates will not be tolerated. There is no putting other students down. Inappropriate language and conversation could result in expulsion from class.

2.) Attendance will be taken each period and is updated daily as of 2:45 PM. Students late to class without a pass will be given one warning. On the second offense a conference will be held. On the third offense the student will be assigned detention (30 min.). This applies to every student. Cutting class will result in a zero for that day's work, including quizzes and tests. See the attendance policy for further information.

3.) Students who are absent on quiz/test day will make up that quiz/test their next day back to school, unless significant class time was missed due to illness. Homework/Classwork must also be submitted the next day back from absence unless there was a protracted illness or absence.

4.) Cheating of any kind, including plagiarism, copying others' work or use of online translators and passing work off as your own will result in a zero.

5.) Projects deadlines are to be respected. Projects handed in late will result in a 10 point loss per school day late. Those scheduled to make a formal oral presentation (solo or group), and are absent without informing me by email run the risk of getting a zero on that presentation.

6.) No cell phone use or text messaging is allowed during class. Please keep phones off and IPODS out of sight. Please keep Chromebooks closed until I tell you.

GRADING BREAKDOWN - CP FRENCH 1

*Grades will be posted on POWERSCHOOL on a regular basis.

*All assignments and upcoming quizzes will be posted on Google Classroom.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS (20% of grade)

Formative assessments are small, incremental checks for comprehension and vocabulary retention. Formative assessments break down into skill-building exercises and quizzes.

1.) Skill-building homework/classwork Assignments can consist of workbook exercises, worksheets, language lab exercises, pair activities, listening comprehension and speaking proficiency.

2.) Quizzes are normally given at the end of one or two week lessons and assess a smaller amount of information than an exam (vocabulary list, a grammatical concept, a cultural lesson etc.).

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS (80% of grade)

Summative assessments are larger assessments of a substantial amount of material that demonstrate a student's knowledge and skills of the major core competencies in the areas of listening comprehension, speaking proficiency, short writings, reading comprehension and cultural awareness. Summative assessments break down into exams, essays and projects or presentations.

3.) Exams are normally a whole unit assessment, covering large amounts of vocabulary, grammar and culture with essays, listening and speaking components included.

4.) Projects are normally whole unit and/or cultural assessments that provide students with a different way to demonstrate their knowledge and creativity than traditional exams. Projects can be in the form of oral presentations (solo or group) with a written element, poster project with oral presentations, research papers or powerpoint presentations.

RETAKE POLICY

Students who score below 80% on any assessment and wish to make up that assessment will be allowed to do so within two weeks. It is the student's responsibility to inform me in a timely manner of their intention to do a retake and must come for at least one extra help session before taking the assessment, which will be the same format and content as the original but containing different questions or writing prompts.
