Course Competencies

1. Students will demonstrate their ability to engage in simple exchanges to express and gather basic information (name, introduce friends and family, place of residency and nationality, their age, ages of friends and family) on both written and spoken form, using proper pronunciation and intonation, and register (unit 1)

2. Students will demonstrate an ability to order food and drinks, pay the tab, discuss the time, the date and day of the week, birthdays, weather and seasons using proper pronunciation and intonation, and register (unit 2)

3. Students will demonstrate their ability to ask and answer questions using "-er verbs" in the present tense with the correct question word, word order, affirmative and negative forms, both with est-ce que and the inversion methods. (Unit 3)

4. Students will demonstrate their ability to express and understand likes, preferences, wants, needs, or obligations, and to use the verbs être and faire to express locations and activities in the present tense. (Unit 3)

5. Students will demonstrate their ability to understand and express information on their possessions (using correct articles and possessive adjectives) and their location (prepositions), their attributes and those of their family and their friends (adjectives), using the correct adjective-noun agreement and word order. (Unit 4)

6. Students will demonstrate their ability to understand and express information about their house, their city or town, its places of interest and how to get there (directions) using the verbs "venir" and "aller" as well as their future plans using two verb constructions (unit 5)

7. Students will demonstrate their ability to name basic geographic features of France and to identify various Paris monuments and sites. (Unit 5)
