Superintendent's Letter to Families

Family Message April 15, 2022

Dear Derry Cooperative School District Families,

This has been another fantastic week in the Derry Cooperative School District where students continue to learn, grow and connect in so many ways. We are so proud and grateful for every person’s commitment to the vision and mission of our District.

A special thank you is extended to each of our schools for their presentations to the School Board this year. These student presentations are the highlight of our meetings since students and staff are present to actively share the meaningful work that occurs in our schools each day. To date, Derry Village Elementary School; East Derry Memorial Elementary School; Ernest P. Barka Elementary School; South Range Elementary School; Gilbert H. Hood Middle School; West Running Brook Middle School; and Next Charter School have presented at a School Board meeting. We look forward to the May School Board presentations by our Derry Early Education Program and Grinnell Elementary School students.

From July 11 through August 4, 2022 the Derry School District will offer the Summer Learning Path program for students currently in Kindergarten through Grade 8, funded through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund. This is a wonderful learning and growth opportunity for students. Interested families are encouraged to consider registering their child(ren). Please refer to this flyer for additional details. Please note that the registration deadline for Summer Learning Path has been extended to Friday, April 22, 2022.

I hope that you enjoy a wonderful weekend with your children and entire family.

Respectfully,

MaryAnn Connors-Krikorian, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools

Teacher of the Month

Posted 11/01/2021

Hayley is a very hard working and dedicated teacher to second graders at Derry Village School. She is always looking for ways to engage her students and help them learn in different ways. She began her teaching career last year in the pandemic and she dove right in. She taught her students in person, then remotely and also hybrid. (She even taught them remotely when she had COVID.) That was a stressful task even for the experienced teachers. She arrives to school early every day and returns home long after the students have gone home. She does all that while also studying for her masters and juggling being Miss Liberty. Soon she will be adding preparing for the Miss New Hampshire pageant to her busy schedule. Hayley deserves some recognition for her hard work.

NH Top Teachers

Posted 1/8/2020

We are so happy to share that Grade 2 teacher Kelly Gagnon has been awarded one of five NH Top Teachers by Parenting NH Magazine.Kelly Gagnon has been a classroom teacher since 2009, and has taught all 10 years in the Derry School District. She also has a Master’s degree in Reading and Writing.

Kelly says: “Working with my second grade students is such a gift. They inspire me to be the best I can be. In my classroom, I want my students to know that anything is possible and feel comfortable and able to try new experiences. I enjoy their smiles each day and I learn at least as much from them as they do from me. Every child is different and it is rewarding to see them grow as learners and individuals in their own unique, special ways.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Teacher of the Year

Posted 12/20/2021

Derry Village School is proud to announce that Mrs. Erika Desena was awarded the VFW Teacher of the Year last week by Isaac Miller, Commander, VFW post 1617 at the Derry Cooperative School Board Meeting.

Founded in 1899, the VFW highly supports the education of America’s youth. VFW and its Auxiliary have developed a slate of programs dedicated to helping America’s educators. VFW Citizenship Education programs stimulate interest in America’s history, traditions, Americanism, civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism.

Mrs. Desena is very deserving of this award as she cares deeply about America and its children. She has shown excellence in citizenship, innovation, use of resources, and passion for teaching.

For all of these things we thank Mrs. Desena for the work she does with our students and with the community of Derry. A well earned award.
