About Santiam Senior Center

"The Santiam Senior Center exists to provide educational, recreational, and social services that support and enhance the needs and interests of the senior citizens of our community and surrounding areas"

Santiam Senior Center, Inc., was established in March 2006 as a non-profit organization for seniors in the Santiam Valley.  It had a problem locating a site where the members could meet that would be exclusively available to the organization and that would enable SSC to thrive and grow.  After meeting at various temporary facilities, the organization went from active to dormant off and on until 2009.  At that time, the then current Board of Directors decided it was time to try again.  This time it was successful.  Stayton Cooperative Telephone Company (SCTC) was approached by a supporter regarding their building at 41818 Kingston-Jordan Road. SCTC very graciously agreed to let us rent a portion of the premises.  We finally had a facility we could use on a permanent basis.  SCTC also offered to install additional appliances and cabinets in the kitchen as well as provide us tables and chairs for the main room.  We are very appreciative of everything SCTC has provided for us.  We opened the doors at our current facility on January 14, 2010 with a successful Open House. We started the membership program on March 3, 2010.  As of October, 2023 we have over 180 active members. Membership is open to all people age 50 and over.  If you would like to become a member, please stop by or call us at (503) 767-2009 for more information.

Since we opened in 2010, the City of Stayton has given us 6 Community Grant funds that assisted us with start-up and operating costs as well as provide various services for the seniors. The City of Sublimity donated about 30 chairs. The Sublimity Fire Department has loaned their Bingo equipment to us.  The Stayton Public Library, and Monty's Coins and More has provided the banquet tables for our Rummage Sales.  As a matter of fact, most of the furnishings, wall hangings, and equipment in our facility have been attained through donations.  The Board of Directors and members appreciate everything provided for the benefit of the "kids over 50" at the Santiam Senior Center.

Our computer room has donated computers available for our members' use. These are connected to the internet (provided by SCTC / Willamette Valley Internet).  The computers also have "OpenOffice," which is an office suite similar to Microsoft Office, and several other programs.  "Thank you" to a volunteer (an IT tech) for helping us with the computers.  He has donated his time, expertise, and vast knowledge on his own time.   We greatly appreciate him...Thank you, Ken

“Thank you” to North Santiam School District and their technology staff. In May of 2011 the tech staff helped us get this website up and running.  We appreciate their help and patience, thank you.

To the people, businesses, and organizations of the Santiam Valley who have been extremely supportive, a big Thank You from all the "Kids over 50" who are enjoying this beautiful facility!!!

Come visit with us.  We are very proud of what we have accomplished and would enjoy giving you a tour of our home.

Membership is only $20 per year.  We are are not connected to, nor do we receive regular support from, any government entity.  SSC is fully self-supported, therefore, membership dues are very important to us as well as the annual Rummage Sale, and donations from the local communities, businesses and individuals.

Thank you City of Stayton Mayor and Council members for the generous Community Grants. We appreciate them and will use them to continue to give our seniors a place to come to visit, learn, and have fun.
