Physics - Grade 12

This Main Lesson examines the properties of light, as pure light and as light interacting with matter. The students observe optical phenomena involving mirrors, prisms, slits and pinholes, lenses, and colored films. They also observe visual phenomena in the environment. The students learn about the various theories of optics, and connecting these with their observational studies, develop the means to understand the construction and use of telescopes. The students are led to an overview of the various celestial bodies, with a particular emphasis on their electromagnetic emissions. During the course, the students are required to take careful notes, sum up key ideas about optics and visual phenomena, and carry out select projects in optics.
