Our First Day of School Collaboration Project with all of SMS

(Students were given monochromatic (one color hue) colors in crayons, markers and colored pencils and designed their own feathers using the elements of line, color and value to complete their feather)

"There is freedom waiting for you, on the breezes of the sky and you ask yourself 'What if I fall?' Oh, but my darling, What if you fly? (Eric Hansen)

What do Artists Do?

"Notice how the trees don't cling to their leaves. Fall is about releasing the old, to make way for the new"

Mrs. Mercurio's 3rd Grade

Students followed a guided method on how to proportionally draw a spider web using a ruler so that their lines were straight and even. They then proceeded to use different hues of color to help show depth in the spider web by shading color from light to dark. They all have a hanging spider that was attached with either white or black yarn.

Mrs. Murphy's Pre K and Mrs. Woods' Kindergarten

Students created "mini turkeys" for Thanksgiving out of mini paper plates that they colored first with a brown crayon.

They then glued multiple colored feathers on the back of the paper plate to help make their turkeys look extra festive and bright. The students then glued the pre-cut body and legs on and drew faces with colored pencils to complete their "mini turkey's".

Mrs. Meagher's First Grade

Students created Totem Poles in honor of Thanksgiving.

Totem poles are a traditional way of telling the stories of First Nation families and clans, and of keeping records of important historical events.

The students took ideas from what they saw through pictures and books and created their own totem poles using various mediums.

Students used a paper towel roll to create their Totem Pole. They created designs on different colored construction paper using various materials such as, markers, colored pencils, felt, colored paper, foam pieces and crayons.
