4. Creating Value
Draw a sphere and shade it smoothly with tempera paint. It should clearly show: Highlight, mid tones, shadow, and cast shadow.
Shading with paint is similar to shading with a pencil. You are looking for the lightest and darkest parts of the object, and blending tints and shades to get even transitions.
