1. Seed Pod Abstractions

Big Ideas:

1. What is unity and how is it created?

2. How can I make 3 pieces cohesive and have each piece stand on its own?

3. How can I manipulate tools and found objects in ways to create unique textures?

Objective:

Apply pinch pot techniques to create a series of 3 pieces that are abstract and based off the interesting forms and textures of seed pods. The 3 pieces should create the look of unity by utilizing form, repetition, and texture. Each one of the 3 forms will include 4+ textures each and be in the round.

Project Criteria:

    • Create 3 hollow pinch pots (they can vary in size and shape but must be related)

    • Theme is inspired by one or combination of several seed pods

    • Structure is interesting from all angles (in the round) including from above and below

    • Forms have added embellishments and attached elements

    • Forms show at least 4 assorted textures on each pinch pot

    • Forms are unified, cohesive, all 3 pieces work together as 1 unit, and each piece is unified on its own

    • All walls are even in thickness, textures are applied thoughtfully, and all attached elements are scored/slipped with smooth blended seams.
