Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery, We are able to progress our Walsall climate response project. This project fits the overall Walsall climate response to become Net Zero by 2041. Walsall remains very susceptible to the long term affects of climate change such as:
Economic collapse
Inward migration
Lack of resources
Removal of bio-diversity
Food insecurity
Ryecroft Hub along with our partners are planning to raise awareness of climate change in several ways, including:
Economic - We are working with members of Wolverhampton University to create a "green academy" to create youth employment in this rapidly emerging industry.
Inward migration - We are raising awareness of the need to tackle the housing crisis by aligning our green academy to allow the community to build their own housing using modular eco systems", everyone should work together to ensure we all have a modern, energy efficient home.
Lack of resources - We are delivering resilience training in energy awareness, climate change and economic resillience. We are also delivering sessions through our gardening club, learning to cook healthy meals on a budget, and how through aggregation of marginal gains we can all contribute to lowering the carbon produced by Walsall and save money at the same time.
Removal of bio-diversity - We are working with our partners PACCG and Friends of the earth to raise awareness of our rapidly disappearing bio-diversity, vital for our lives.
Food insecurity - We run our micro allotment and learn to cook with the food produced, creating healthy recipes. We also collect and cook surplus food from several local supermarkets.
