FLASHCARDS: Create a set of flashcards of all High-Frequency Words
RAINBOW: Write each word using three colors
WRITING: “Write” the High-Frequency Words out of small objects (noodles, beans, grapes, cereal, coins, beads, etc.).
PICTURE WORDS: Draw a picture and write your words in the picture
GO FISH: Create two sets of High-Frequency Word cards and play “Go Fish.” The goal is to have the most matched word pairs at the end of the game. Each player receives seven cards and follows the standard rules for playing “Go Fish.” (Example: Player 1 “Do you have the word FROM?” If Player 2 has the requested word card, then they must give it to Player 1 and Player 1 sets down their match. If Player 2 does not have the requested word card, then Player 1 must draw a card and it is not Player 2’s turn.)
MEMORY: Create two sets of High-Frequency Word cards and play a game of “Memory.” Lay the cards face down on the floor or the table. Take turns trying to match identical words. The person with the most pairs wins.
HOPSCOTCH: Use sidewalk chalk and design a hopscotch grid on the sidewalk. Write a High-Frequency Word in each square. Your child must be able to read a word before hopping or jumping into each square
HIGHLIGHT: Have your child look at magazines, newspapers, cereal boxes, etc. and highlight and read the High-Frequency Words of the week
SHAVING CREAM WORDS: Write your words in shaving cream on a counter surface that may be cleaned safely
SANDY WORDS: Write your words in a sandbox
3D WORDS: Use modeling clay to build your words
ABC Order: Write your High-Frequency Words in alphabetical order
STORY TIME: Write a creative story using all of your weekly words
TAP-IT-OUT: Tap your arm and say each letter of each word. Then, slide down your arm and say the full word 3x
SKY WRITE: Write each word in the sky using your pointer finger
