“I wish I had a time machine so I could go forward exactly one week and it would be time for Academies again!”
Eight o’clock Friday morning was unlike any normal morning at Caraway. One second the halls were calm and silent, then moments later they were filled with the buzz of excited students making their way to an Academy. The moment passed, the hallways emptied, and learning began.
Our first session of Caraway Academy had officially started. For thirty minutes each student had the opportunity to participate in an interest based session of their choice. They met their Academy leaders and talked about hopes and expectations for the weeks to come. Academy leaders introduced topics and guided students in sharing what they would like to individually learn and take away from their Academy.
Thirty minutes passed. The halls filled and emptied again. The first day of Academies was done, but in reality it had only just begun. The hum of excitement remained all day. One student passionately blurted out, “I wish I had a time machine so I could go forward exactly one week and it would be time for Academies again!”
Caraway Academy wouldn’t be possible without the many donations and the service of our parent and community volunteers. Thank you so much for joining and supporting us in this adventure. We can’t wait to see what happens next week as students and leaders dive deeper into their content.
Until next week, here are a few of the Academies that students are participating in this fall.
Take a Pic is led by Mrs. Caballero and Mrs. Cardenas. Kindergarten and first grade students will work with their leaders to learn how to take pictures like a real photographer.
Sketch It! is led by Mrs. Cockerill. Kindergarten and first grade students create their favorite sketches. They will collaboratively share their sketching knowledge with one another as each student grows as an artist.
Crazy Karaoke is led by Ms. Wilder and Ms. Marsh. Second and third grade students will build their performance skills as they sing their hearts out to favorite tunes.
Insect Academy is led by Ms. Bourque and Mrs. Seidlits. Second and third grade students will collect and investigate the interesting bug which live in our area.
Stupendous Stamping is led by Ms. Glikman. Second and third grade students will use a variety of techniques to create greeting cards with rubber art stamps. Some of these cards will even be used to impact the community in a positive way!
Dresses for Africa is led by Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Petiprin. Fourth and fifth grade students will learn to sew as they create dresses for children in need.
