Introduction: AP Chinese is considered as an advanced course which is intended for students who are interested in completing studies comparable in content and difficulty to a full-year course at the second-year college level, so students are expected to master the language in listening, speaking, reading, and writing and to understand the cultural aspects of Chinese. The course prepares students to master the language across three communication modes: interpretation, interpersonal, and presentational and immerses the students into the Chinese culture. Students will continue to accumulate more vocabulary, focus on grammar and sentence structures. The students will learn to read a variety of Chinese stories, write Chinese essays and present cultural and social topics. Various learning materials will be provided.
Goal:
1. Develop communication competencies in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing
2. Practice speaking skills through in-class discussions or presentations
3. Understand the given materials both in speaking and in reading
4. Read and write in Chinese on a daily basis
5. Understand and discuss the cultural topics in Chinese
6. Use the Chinese language both in the school setting and in real-life situations
7. Use the knowledge gained through Chinese study to develop critical thinking skills in order to make connections and comparisons with other content areas of learning
8. The class will be delivered in Chinese primarily with English as a secondary method for facilitation as needed.
