Introduction: Chinese 1 is a basic language course in which the students learn Chinese phonetics – Pinyin and the basics of Chinese characters. Students will also learn basic oral and written/typing communication skills, including classroom expressions, everyday life expressions, simple characters recognition and writing, and etc. Chinese level 1 will also introduce Chinese culture, history, and its traditions to further develop a global understanding of our world today. Students will use Easy Steps to Chinese Level 1 as the main reference book, with additional learning materials provided.

Goals:

• Understand simple spoken and written Chinese phrases

• Engage in oral and written communication to socialize and to provide and obtain information such as self-introduction, asking basic information of other people

• Can type Chinese characters

• Develop the confidence to speak Chinese and make a small presentation in class and in public
