Film or Video?

What are the differences between film and video?

Why does it matter?

Film in a Digital World

With the ascendance of Digital Cinema, the question of film's position in the industry is being asked more often than ever. The power of the filmed image (when done right) remains unquestioned, however. In more and more cases, we may look at film as the ultimate Acquisition Codec. Even as RED cameras and other digital cinema formats arise, film, television, and commercial production - even when they are intended for broadcast or digital distribution - often opt for film at shooting. The film is then digitized and enters the contemporary digital cinema workflow. This may result in filmout, or matchback - but more often the product remains digital for broadcast.
