Science Benchmark Answer Key, Alignments, and Rigor

This spreadsheet provides the answer key for the different benchmark test items as well as the specific science performance indicators they are aligned with. Additionally, the relative rigor of each item is provided.

NOTE: In the context of these items, rigor relates to the complexity of the concepts and question. It is NOT related to how easy or difficult the question might be.

• Low Rigor: These are typically items that require little more than recall of memorized facts.
• Medium Rigor: These are typically items that require students to analyze simple data, interpret a model, or apply learning to a situation or scenario.
• High Rigor: Similar to Medium Rigor, these items require more complex thinking and may ask students to use multiple models or compare data from more than one source to apply an understanding of a more complex science concept.
