What is it?
Administered by the Exceptional Children Division, the North Carolina Governor's School has provided a unique and innovative residential educational experience for gifted and talented high school students from across the state each summer since 1963. The Governor's School of North Carolina is a five and one-half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades.
Who can apply?
The program is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas. This Overview provides helpful information about the program.

Students must be a North Carolina resident attending a North Carolina school and enrolled in the eleventh grade at the time of nomination (exceptions are made to allow for students in tenth and eleventh grades in Dance, Choral Music and Instrumental Music), and must be scheduled to return to attend school after the Governor's School session.
