Ashley Johnston

Hello!  Welcome to a new school year! My name is Ashley Johnston and I am a counselor here at East Rutherford High School.  I will work primarily with ninth and tenth grade students throughout the year.  The counseling program at ERHS is designed to help each student make the most of his or her educational experiences.  As
a counselor, I am here to provide support for every student's academic progress, emotional well-being, and personal and social development.
I take an integrated theoretical approach to counseling which includes cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and person-centered therapy approaches.  I believe that every individual is capable of positive growth and self-direction.  As a school counselor, I will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create an environment that promotes student development and achievement.
I was in the classroom for seven years as a middle school teacher.  Due to my experience in the middle school setting, I have insight and background knowledge concerning the transition from middle school to high school.  I am here to support all students, especially rising freshmen and sophomores as they make the transition to high school level work and responsibilities.
I have received my Master's degree in School Counseling from Gardner-Webb University.  The graduate program is accredited by CACREP, the nationally recognized accrediting agency for counseling graduate programs.
