The reference/study skills class is designed to teach students how to study. We help students find ways to study that are directly linked to their strengths. Each student will take several quizzes/questionnaires to determine how they learn best. For example, is s/he a visual, auditory or kinesthetic learner? Does s/he learn best when studying alone, with a person of authority such as a parent or tutor, or with peers? Then they will be taught multiple ways to study, try them out, and keep working on their skills until they find the perfect way(s) to get the best test scores and class grades they can. This class is not just for doing homework, though they can ask questions about homework or get extra help if they do not understand how to do something, and there will be times when they can get a jump start on that night's homework. Students may not use this as a "study hall" and are expected to complete their homework at home. The goal is to prepare them for the rigors of adult life, including college, technical school, or job training, with as many skills as possible, including time management.
