The Arts are an integral part of all aspects of life at Pt England because of the Learn Create Share pedagogy. Along side the integration of the Arts into the daily programmes and life of the school, a specialist music/drama teacher works weekly with all students on a structured music programme covering singing, listening, performing and viewing.
The specialist teacher runs a choir, assists the Principal with a band, and facilitates PEPA (Pt England Performing Arts Group). Whanau members also assist with the band and some of the other performing arts groups that run at different times during the year e.g. drumming, hiphop and traditional culture groups.
Pt England has a very rich culture of live performances, graphic art, cultural performances, visual art intensives and exhibitions and a proud tradition in movie making, participation in Film Festivals and winning film competitions.
Because of the high level of input and expectation around performance and excellence Pt England students are very confident and capable when sharing their learning with others in this way. Students view different groups of peers performing or sharing their work in some creative way on a daily basis on PENN our daily news network. The school culture of learning, creating and sharing has produced confident, creative learners who are ready to take risks and put themselves out there, to be seen and their voices heard.
The variety, the standard, and the regularity of opportunities for sharing ( Assemblies, Productions, Fiafia nights, PENN) has an uplifting effect on whanau and the local community. It has brought a sense of pride and sometimes a sense of amazement at what heights the students can rise to when given opportunity and support.
Graphic art is integrated into all Inquiry learning activities.
Production and Fiafia alternate yearly at the request of the whanau. 2014 is Fiafia year
A whole school Visual Art intensive is held as part of Curriculum Coverage on a regular rotation and the Visual Arts are planned into each Inquiry.
