About Antoni Gaudi

Antoni Gaudi was born in 1852 and lived in Barcelona, Spain. When he was 26 years old he graduated as an architect. Gaudi based his designs on nature, decorating his buildings with plants, flowers and animals. Gaudi died in 1926. Some of Gaudi’s famous buildings include:

La Sagrada Familia (Church of the Sacred Family)

Gaudi only finished some of this cathedral before he died. The cathedral features four towers with an elevator to take you up and over 300 steps to climb down. Work to finish the cathedral is still happening today.

Casa Batilo

This is no ordinary house. It has hobbit windows and a colourful roof like the back of a dragon. Inside, the staircase goes round and round up to the roof where the chimneys look like they will dance and sing.

Park Guell

This is a large park with one of Gaudi’s most loved creations, a mosaic dragon. At the entrance to the park are two gingerbread-house buildings. There is a children’s preschool in the park and paths leading up the hill for a great view. Children will love exploring the grottos and an undersea world. The park is also perfect for a picnic.
