BEGINNING PROGRAM
The Poudre School District Beginning Music Program is open to any student currently in 5th grade that will be attending a PSD middle school next year. Students in grades 6-12 can also take beginning classes to learn an instrument if they didn't learn one in 6th grade, or if they are wanting to learn a new instrument on a space available basis. Students not attending a PSD school in the fall may participate as space allows.
In the summer, classes are taught in like instrument, or like family groups (only trumpets, or high strings). This allows us to focus on the basics of each instrument, and move at a faster pace than we are able to during the year when a typical class might have four to fourteen different instruments, each with different playing techniques.
Classes are taught by professional music educators - often by the teachers students will have either in middle school or high school. For that reason, we recommend that students attend the site closest to their home school - students will not only get to know their future music teachers, but many of the students that will be in their band and orchestra classes in the fall as well.

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM
The Poudre School District Intermediate Music Program is open to any student who has played an instrument for one or more years, and will still be in middle school next year.
Three of our sites offer an intermediate band and an intermediate orchestra. These are full concert bands and full string orchestras (not individual instrument classes). The focus of the program is to prepare a short concert that is presented on the last day of classes.
Classes are taught by professional music educators - often by the teachers students will have either in middle school or high school. For that reason, we recommend that students attend the site closest to their home school - students will not only get to know their future music teachers, but many of the students that will be in their band and orchestra classes in the fall as well.
The summer intermediate orchestra is an opportunity for students to continue to play their instruments over the summer. The focus of the orchestra will be on learning approximately four pieces of music that will be performed at a final concert at Lesher on Thursday, July 31 (Time TBD). Parents are encouraged to attend to final performance.
Students should bring their instrument and all accessories needed to play. Music will be provided.
