REPORTING AN ABSENCE
Attendance at the summer classes is encouraged, but we know people will have conflicts. IF YOU CAN, INFORM THE TEACHER BEFORE THE ABSENCE. With illnesses, you can email the teacher. With only fifteen days of instruction, missing a lot of classes defeats to purpose. We encourage families that have to miss more than a week to look for a different option to get a head start.
Because of the pace of the summer, people who miss classes may fall behind...
Because of absences, or when new techniques are introduced, students may start to feel "behind." At every site, we have at least one teacher that has a "remedial" time. Any student is welcome to ask the remedial teacher for extra help if they start to feel behind. From time to time a class teacher may recommend that a student get some remedial help. If you would like to take advantage of some remedial help, check the school page for the summer class you are attending, and contact the remedial teacher to schedule your time. Be sure to let the remedial teacher know the day before that you will be coming so he/she plan on having some individual time for you.
Illness
We ask that if a student becomes ill and is contagious, that they stay home. Masks can be used with string players and percussionists, but have to be constantly removed to play wind instruments. If a student is confirmed to have COVID and may have exposed other students, please let your summer teacher know.
Allergies and other Pre-Existing health concerns
Summer teachers will receive a list of health concerns for all students that have pre-registered for classes (registration prior to June 27). They will also meet with a nurse and have any necessary training to deal with these conditions. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE. Current PSD parents should log into ParentVue and make sure all of this information is up to date. If you are not a PSD parent/student, you should provide any necessary health issue to the teacher at the first class meeting.
