Beginning Program

INTRODUCTION

Beginning - The Poudre School District Summer beginning program is designed for students that have never played an instrument. Classes include how to put the instrument together, how to read music, and how to produce sound with the instrument. From time to time, students who have taken private lessons, or received other instruction sign up for beginning classes.  In general, students that have already played are better suited for the intermediate program.  If you have played your instrument before, our recommendation is to sign up for the intermediate program, and if necessary we can always switch to the beginning level if needed.

DATES

Dates for the 2025 Summer Beginning program are 

Monday, July 14 through Friday, August 1 

LOCATIONS:

Classes are held at 5 locations around the Poudre School District.  Students are encouraged to attend the site closest to the school they will attend in the fall, but may attend any site that works best for them.  By attending the site closest to the site you will attend in the fall, you will have the opportunity to work with teachers and meet students who will be in band or orchestra with you in the fall.

For the summer of 2025, beginning classes will be held at Blevins Middle School (best site for students attending Blevins or Webber), Kinard Middle School (best site for students attending Kinard, Preston or Timnath), Lesher Middle School (best site for students attending Boltz or Lesher),  Poudre High School (best site for students attending Cache La Poudre or Lincoln Middle School) and Wellington Middle/High School (best site for students attending Wellington)

REGISTER

Registration is a TWO-STEP process:

PRE-REGISTRATION IS OPEN MAY 1 to JUNE 27

LATE REGISTRATION IS OPEN JUNE 28 to JULY 25

STEP 1 - PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEE

• If you/your child is currently a PSD Student, click https://psdschools.schoolpay.com/ to pay the $52.50 fee.  Look for a purchase option labeled “Summer Music: Current PSD Student.”

  • Summer Music is subject to fee waiver for qualifying students. If you’re interested in requesting a fee waiver, please see the Student Fees and Charges section on the PSD Website.

• If you/your child is NOT currently a PSD Student, click https://schoolpay.com/link/Summer-Music-2025-Non-PSD-Student to pay the $52.50 fee.

  • Fee waivers are only available for current PSD students. All Non-PSD students must pay to participate.

• If you have any problems with School Pay, contact Chrissi Easton or Kim Parker with PSD Finanace

• After payment has been made, you will get a receipt - You will need your receipt number (the transaction #) to complete step 2.

STEP 2 - CLASS REGISTRATION

• Click HERE to go to the Summer Music registration (Clicking will take you to https://forms.gle/zJmDARAMnqCjFir26).  

• Once you have paid and completed the Google Form registration, you are done.  YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A COPY OF YOUR REGISTRATION.   THIS EMAIL SERVES AS YOUR CONFIRMATION. A final email with any last minute information will be sent two weeks before classes begin. 

I MISSED THE REGISTRATION WINDOW - CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

Yes!  The reason we do a pre-reigstration for the beginning program is so the teachers can prepare for the number of students planning on attending and to get information out in a timely fashion.  If you have decided to participate AFTER June 27, we ask that you complete the payment and class registration links (the links will stay active).  You will not receive a confirmation - but all the information you need is available on the school pages of the Summer Music Website.  Students can join the beginning program through the end of the second week of classes.

CHANGES AFTER YOU HAVE REGISTERED

If you have completed your registration (both steps) and something comes up that requires you to change or cancel your registration, contact Scott Schlup (Summer Music Coordinator) at sschlup@psdschools.org

Click on the teacher name below the class offering (on the individual school pages below) to send the teacher an email.  Please remember that PSD Teachers are on summer vacation from the last day of school until the program begins - they may be slow to respond.  If you cannot get a reply, contact Scott (above).  Scott may not have the answer since teachers establish the information/requirements for their classes
